Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program

A smiling Veteran enters a white Volunteers of America van

Volunteers of America Northern Rockies provides services to the homeless Veteran population in Western South Dakota and select Montana counties (Gallatin, Cascade, Lewis & Clark, Missoula, Deer Lodge, Flathead, Lake, Powell, Silver Bow, Broadwater, Jefferson, and Granite), through the Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program (HVRP). This program is funded by the United States Department of Labor Veterans' Employment and Training Services.

As the Department of Labor explains, "HVRP has two core objectives: 1) to provide services to assist in reintegrating homeless veterans into meaningful employment within the labor force, and 2) to stimulate the development of effective service delivery systems that will address the complex problems facing homeless veterans."

At Volunteers of American Northern Rockies, we strive to meet these core objectives by ensuring that Veterans in our programs are finding employment that is meaningful to them, not just taking whatever job is available. This is a key foundation to help them transition into a community and build a healthy, happy life. We also network with other service providers in order to ensure that the complex needs of our Veteran communities are being met.

And our network extends beyond other care providers. We also work directly with employers in our community to discuss the benefits of hiring Veterans, including incentives like the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC). Our experienced and trained staff works hard to ensure that vocational needs are being met, and continue to work with Veterans even after they find employment to ensure that a balance in their life is maintained.

Lack of employment is a major cause of Veteran homelessness. At Volunteers of America Northern Rockies we aim to help stabilize the lives and futures of homeless Veterans and one of the most effective ways to do that is by helping them find meaningful employment.
